OER Online Teacher Course explores the Deep Gulf of Mexico
CIOERT Director, Dr. Shirley Pomponi, and other deep sea experts, mentored teachers from around the world via an on-line course sponsored by NOAA’s Office of Ocean Exploration and Research (OER). The three-week professional development offering during Oct 2010, Lessons from the Deep: Exploring the Gulf of Mexico’s Deep-Sea Ecosystems, included: keynote addresses from renowned ocean explorers who have made significant contributions to scientific knowledge of deep-sea ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico, a collection of related resources, and discussion rooms for Keynoters to interact with participants, and for teachers of different grade levels. Participants included formal and informal educators, as well as interested members of the public. Registration is free and provides access to keynotes including Dr. Pomponi’s “Overview of Research on Ecosystems: Methods and Technologies."
